Yup, I will say that that I am a furry.

I know of one other person on OPPO and I wont name them unless they wanna be named on here. Thought we got to talking last night and we wondered if anyone else was one.

I've been wanting to share this but never got around to it.

What do you guys think of it?

I think the "shock and awe" bubble died a while ago (the CSI episode is probably the peak of the weirdness bubble). There isn't much that the "public" can say about furries anymore that hasn't already been said (the new 'dark part of the internet' are paid assassinations and the online drug trade) and most people are just indifferent to it now.

Add the fact that conventions have become such a huge thing, I see the trend following the path of cosplaying and comic book fanaticism: while originally considered an obsessive and unhealthy lifestyle, at some point as people understand and accept it more, it becomes a fun hobby regardless of your interest.

The important thing is that means that, for the first time, the public perception of furry can be separated into two distinct ideas: Identity and Activity. It's no longer a stigma to engage in furry activity (art, conventions, etc.) because it no longer implies identity (oh, so you like furry art, therefore you must be ____"). It doesn't mean that the identity doesn't exist, but likewise, just because someone goes to Comic Con doesn't mean that they have 2000 mint-in-box action figures in their mom's basement anymore.
